Fire kicked Excel's door - now they save hours

The pride of Bergen - Sportsklubben Brann - has been going strong since 1908, and is a home for all Bergens with a passion for football. Brann is a club rich in history, with a trophy wall few can match. Now they're using Huma, and one of the most active members of the HR system is commercial manager Therese Andvik Rygg. Here are her experiences with a Nordic HR system.

Industry: Sports club
Size: 256
Location: Bergen

Hours of searching in large Excel sheets led to the search for an HR system

Therese has worked at Brann for five years, and until they started using Huma in the fall of 2024, they used Excel for much of their HR administration, including keeping personal data and absence registration. And with over 250 employees, it's no surprise that Excel becomes cumbersome.

That's how Brann decided they needed a suitable platform to keep track of everything to do with employees. The goal was to professionalize the club even more, freeing up time they could instead use to deliver on the pitch.

The search process involved a comprehensive tender that included several competing services. After careful consideration, they decided that Huma was the HR system that suited them best.

"We had our finger in the wind when we
reported sick leave for the quarter"

When Therese and the rest of the team at Brann used Excel, they encountered problems that affected efficiency. When she needed a colleague's number, a lot of time was spent searching through long spreadsheets to find the right person. And when another colleague needed a number, they often came to Therese to ask.

Another time thief was when she had to take the absence report for each quarter. She had to read up and down endless spreadsheets, which often weren't as tidy as you'd like. "We had our fingers in the wind when we reported sick leave for the quarter," says Therese.

It was a time thief, now it's just a couple of mouse clicks

Implementing Huma was done with good assistance from Aider Folk og Kultur, who helped to adopt the system in an optimal way. Now all the employees - both in the administration and on and around the pitch - at Sportsklubben Brann are in Huma, which saves them a lot of time and distractions. If someone now needs the contact details of a colleague, they simply go into the People module and look up the name themselves in just a few seconds.

"Now it's very easy to find your absence history at any time."

Sickness absence reports were another time thief that took up unnecessary time in incomplete worksheets. Now that employees register their sickness absence themselves in the Absence module, it is automatically added to Huma. Therese can just press a few buttons and the report is exported automatically. Now it's also completely accurate every quarter, and it wasn't just in Excel. "Before, we just had to hope that employees remembered their own absence dates if we couldn't find them. Now it's very easy to find the absence history at any time," she says.

As head of the Commercial Department at Brann, Therese is now very happy to save these hours so that she can spend her time where she actually needs to. In conclusion, she says that it's great to have one platform for all personnel management, and she's now looking forward to getting to know the Onboarding module better. So are we! Thanks so much for the chat, Therese!
