What is a task in Huma?

A task in Huma is an actionable item with a title, an optional description and due date, and a person or group responsible for completing it. Tasks help you define what needs to be done, by whom and by when, and make it easy to follow up on progress.

All tasks in Huma, regardless of where they were created, are collected and displayed in the Tasks module. This means your employees will find all their tasks in one place, whether the task was created manually or generated automatically by a process, onboarding or meeting.

Where tasks come from

Tasks in Huma can be created in several ways. Some are created manually, while others are generated automatically when a process or workflow is started.

  1. Created manually

Anyone can create a task directly in the Tasks module or from the People module and assign it to a person or group.

  2. Generated automatically

The following parts of Huma automatically create tasks when they are started or triggered:

Source When tasks are created
Onboarding When an onboarding is started for a new employee — tasks are distributed to the new hire, their manager or other designated people
Offboarding When an offboarding is started — tasks are distributed to the departing employee and relevant people
Processes When a process is started — tasks are distributed based on the process template and reference date
Sick leave follow-up When the sick leave follow-up process is active — tasks are automatically assigned to the responsible person at set intervals
Meetings When a meeting host creates follow-up tasks during or after a meeting — tasks appear for the assigned person

💡 If an employee receives a task they do not recognise, it is likely generated by one of the above. They can check the task details to see which process or module it came from.

FAQ

Why did my employee receive a task they did not expect?

Tasks in Huma can be generated automatically by onboarding, offboarding, processes, sick leave follow-up or meetings. The employee can check the task details to see which module or process it came from.

Can a task be assigned to a group?

Yes. Tasks can be assigned to a specific person or to a group such as a team or location. When assigned to a group, all members will see the task, but only one person needs to complete it.

Will I be notified when someone completes a task I assigned?

No. Huma does not send a notification when a task is completed. To follow up, go to "Assigned to others" in the Tasks module to see which tasks have been completed.

Some tasks are created in a language I did not expect — can I change this?

Yes. Tasks generated automatically by processes such as sick leave follow-up or onboarding are created with the language of the template or process. If the language does not match your organisation's preference, you can edit the task directly to update the title and description to the language you need.

To edit a task:

  1. Go to the Tasks module and find the task
  2. Click the three dots next to the task
  3. Click "Edit task"
  4. Update the title and description and click "Save"

💡 Editing a task only affects that specific instance — it does not change the template or future tasks of the same type.
