What is the Supervisor role in Huma?
A Supervisor role is a middle-management position with access to their subordinates' employee information. This role includes access to subordinates' profile cards, onboarding processes, workflows, and absence records.
A supervisor is responsible for their subordinates and will have extended access to their profiles.
- You can also not have a supervisor, it’s not obligatory.
How to assign Supervisor
To assign a "Supervisor" to a subordinate
- Go to the "People module" and select the user from the list
- Navigate to "About" and scroll down to "Intro > Supervisor"
- Click "Add people" underneath "Supervisor," choose the subordinate´s supervisor from the list of employees and "Add"
- When a user becomes a supervisor, they automatically receive the supervisor user role as well.
- You can also assign Supervisor through User role > Supervisor.
- Those with the permission to manage users, can also set who is supervising whom.
Huma doesn´t allow circular chains of supervisors. People supervised by X, directly or indirectly, are therefor not available from the "Pick supervisor list."
What is Subordinates in Huma?
Subordinates refer to employees who report directly to a supervisor. Everyone can visit a colleague’s profile to see who is their supervisor and who are their subordinates.
How to assign Subordinates
You can assign multiple "Subordinates" to a single "Supervisor" simultaneously, or alternatively, you can navigate to each "Subordinate's" profile to designate a "Supervisor" individually.
To sign multiple "Subordinates" to a single "Supervisor"
- Go to the "People module" and select the "Supervisor" from the list
- Navigate to "About" and scroll down to "Intro > Subordinates"
- Click "Add people", choose "Subordinates" from the list and "Add"

Find who’s in charge of who. Get an overview or just enjoy the presentation.
- Go to the "People module"
- Navigate to "organizational chart"
- Click on the different employees to see their position in the chart
- You can also change Supervisor and Subordinates in the organizational chart, by clicking the three dots on each employee in the chart.

The User role "Supervisor"
There is a Supervisor role in the settings, where you can decide what permissions you want Supervisors to have in your organization. In this role you can control what supervisors can see and do on the profiles of their subordinates.
To gain insight into the permissions associated with this role
- Go to "System settings" and navigate to "Roles"
- Select "User roles" and scroll down to "Supervisor"
- Click on the role and get a overview of what supervisors are allowed to see and do on their subordinates’ profiles
- You can change the permissions between "no access", "only see" or "see and edit"
- You can set Supervisor as part of an Onboarding and have Onboarding tasks dynamically assigned to the new hire’s Supervisor.
- A filter is available in the people list to simplify the process of locating Supervisors.
- To assign people to the Supervisor role you need a System admin role.
