Hofseth began its journey in 2004 when they purchased a closed dairy farm in the municipality of Vanylven, Sunnmøre. They still operate that dairy farm today, and it serves as one of four processing plants for salmon and trout. From humble beginnings with a turnover of NOK 1 million in 2004, they have grown into a global player with a turnover of NOK 6.3 billion, 20 years later. This remarkable growth is built on a sustainable model with a focus on quality, innovation, and responsibility.
The incredible growth has created a need for a modern system and a significant effort to keep pace. They also plan to use Huma as they work towards their vision of becoming the most sustainable seafood producer. We find this incredibly exciting, so we had a chat with Mia Sæbø and Silje Blindheim to learn more.
Structuring hundreds of people
Hofseth is a collection of eight companies, but they prefer to refer to themselves as one company under the Hofseth umbrella. When they were switching payroll systems, they saw it as a great opportunity to also switch to an HR system to bring more structure to all personnel information, document archives, and handbooks. Previously, HR was spread across the eight subsidiaries, which didn’t contribute to a sense of unity — so they established an HR department that works for the whole group as one team.
"Today, we are very happy that we chose Huma."
After previously failing with an HR system, they conducted thorough research and assessments of several different systems and landed on Huma. They decided to gather all eight companies into one system, as they essentially operate as one large company. "Today, we are very happy that we chose Huma," shared Mia and Silje. In a short time, it has helped them build a stronger sense of community and belonging internally.
The key points behind Hofseth's decision:

It’s valuable to build familiarity with the system from day one
“It was exciting to implement a system where we could largely build it ourselves and take the process at our own pace,” Mia and Silje share, adding that setting up a system on their own helped them build familiarity right from day one. They also mention that having a contact person at Huma for quick answers when they had questions was reassuring.
Now, Hofseth has been using Huma since February 2024. To gain as much familiarity and enjoyment from the system as possible, they chose to take a rolling launch. This has provided significant value for the HR department and employees, saving them time in otherwise lengthy processes.
The handbook is something they highlight as a time-saver. Previously, employees had to come to the office to ask questions, whereas now they can easily look up what they need on their own. The same applies to the leadership handbook, which gives managers a clear overview of responsibilities and quick guidance on how to handle their tasks related to personnel management.
Dialogue and further development led by the users
Mia and Silje share that they really appreciate how there is always an open dialogue and the opportunity to contribute suggestions to the roadmap. “What truly sets Huma apart is the willingness to receive feedback and the active effort to implement it,” Mia and Silje conclude. We are very grateful for that. Thank you, Hofseth! We look forward to continuing this journey together!
